 National Rottweiler Day

This is a paper I wrote for a 300 level English class a couple of semesters ago. I hope y'all enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing and handing it in. :)

I heard today that June 28th has been declared National Rottweiler Day. Considering that the Rottweiler had the third highest numbers of pups registered last year with the American Kennel Club and is one of the most popular breeds in America, plenty of people will be celebrating.

Some of the proposed activities include a parade that highlights the history of the Rottweiler from its days as a Roman drover herding cattle to its present day functions as a pet, protector, and friend. Obedience competitions and conformation events will fill the downtown squares. Every channel on television will have Rott history specials and introduce us to Rotts that have saved the lives of humans. Be sure to bring the kids to the Rottweiler Day fireworks at the park--a light show rivaled only by the fireworks displays on New Years Eve and the Fourth of July!

Rottweiler Day will establish some new traditions. Rott Day greetings will be a wiggling butt and a paw shake. Since the Rottweiler is a working breed, only the banks and post offices will be closed. Anyone not fashionably attired in black and tan will be subjected to a playful nip from one of the day's honorees. Also one will be able to walk down the streets clad in choke chains and spike collars without eliciting stares from others. On National Rottweiler Day receiving black roses will be considered the ultimate act of Rottweiler Day friendship, and sending out Rott Day cards will be a must!

National Rottweiler Day will be a fun-filled, informative day where Rott enthusiasts and others can learn more about this wonderful breed and perhaps go home with a different image of them. And what will those who do not own a member of this noble breed be doing? They are likely to be found sitting in sackcloth and ashes, lamenting their bad fortune.

What do I think about this holiday? Will it be a day to be celebrated by all? All I can say is,

"Woof. Woof. Wiggle. Wiggle."
